Everyday, more and more people are rising to the occasion to explore and create on social media, which in turn creates an ever-expanding mass of topics for us as consumers to enjoy. That being said, with the rise of apps like TikTok and Instagram, more and more creators are starting to fizzle out. There's simply too much content out there, and our attention as viewers is constantly shifting.
As an active user of the platforms, seeing the decline firsthand raises questions of my own. Who are we as consumers more inclined to focus on in this day and age of swiping? How do we differentiate who to keep as "favorites", and to let fade away into the background as another page to swipe past? What keeps this creators motivated to navigate this unanimous drought of creativity and originality? Most of the trends and phases we swipe past have either been cycled through for a few years, or reflect ideas and opinions that others have shared in the past but didn't have the platform and following to be cited and acknowledged. I vote that we take a day every couple of weeks or every month, and refresh our feed. Allow for new creators to show what they're on this app to do, and that they mean more to us as followers than just a double tap and a swipe.
